Presidents' Appreciatitions for Global Telecentre Award Winner: Deepika from Sooriyawewa Nenasala, Sri Lanka
The service of the Manager of the Sooriyawewa Nenasala (telecentre) Centre in Sri Lanka which has won the Award for the best telecentre operator at the First Global Telecentre Awards organized by Telecentre.org Foundation has earned plaudits.
Deepika Priyadharshani, manager of the Sooriyawewa Nenasala marked her first when she won the award as the best Telecentre Manager at the Global Telecentre Awards held in Granada, Spain. She received a special Award from President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday (14). The Nenasala project was launched in 2005 based on a concept of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, to boost IT Technology in Sri Lanka while providing IT services to all age groups from the child to the Senior Citizen in the village. Its goals are poverty eradication, socio-economic development, building peace and raising IT literacy. The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) had established nearly 700 Nenasala Centres countrywide under the eSri Lanka initiative. Chairman of the Information and Communication Technology Agency Prof. P.W. Epasinghe and Executive Officer Reshan Devapura along with ICTA executives were also present at the event.
