The first evrer Global Telecentre Awards 2013 was successfully concluded few minute back from Granada, Spain and a Nenasala (telecentre) Manger from Sri Lanka bagged the award for Best Telecentre Manager. G.A. Deepika Priyadharshani, is the telecentre manager from Sooriyawewa, a small village located in the Hambanthota district Sri Lanka. Telecentre.org Foundation and Spark (the 4th Global Forum on Telecentres) organizers, in cooperation with the regional telecentre networks, launched of the first ever Global Telecentre Awards (GTA), which recognizes and celebrates the best players in the international telecentre arena, and encourage them to continue raising the bar of excellence in the delivery of ICT-based services to the communities.
Among the overwhelming responses received for GTA 2013 under its 6 categories, the Telecentre Manger category had received the highest number of entries which is over 60 and Deepika was awarded the Best Telecentre Manger award and recognized for her contribution in delivering the benefits of ICTs to the rural community in Sooriyawewa and enhancing the quality of life of the people of her village. The award was presented by the Managing Director, Telecentre.org Foundation Miguel Raimilla.
Accepting the award, Deepika thanked Telecentre.org Foundation for organizing the First Global telecentre Awards and she also thanked ICT Agency of Sri Lanka for giving her the opportunity to become a Telecentre Manger and also for providing funding, guidance and support for set-up a Nenasala in her village 8 years back. Addressing the gathering she also noted that "This award is not only mine. This award will celebrate all the hard-working Nenasala managers and operators in my Country"
