ICTA exhibition and seminar in Jaffna on ‘How ICT makes business grow’

A seminar and exhibition on how ICT makes business grow will be held in Jaffna in early April, the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) said.

The twofold event organised by ICTA will be held  on  7th next month from 9:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m. at the Pillaiyar Inn, Jaffna.  It will be aimed at promoting  effective use of ICT in  business  and making the business community aware of the benefits it can bring. 

The two-pronged event in Jaffna, like its predecessors , will give the business community in Jaffna  an ideal opportunity  to explore various products and solutions under one roof. It will enable  companies to interact with one another and find solutions that can be tailor-made for their requirements. ‘The series of exhibitions and seminars are being  held under the Domestic IT Small and Medium Business (SMB) Linkages Programme of ICTA’s Investment and Private Sector Development Programme, says ICTA.  

The goal of the project is to promote the introduction and utilisation of ICT in businesses and SMEs throughout a network of regional towns ( majority being outside  Colombo). 

There are many IT SMEs in Sri Lanka with technology offerings which could fulfil the needs of businesses including SME’s in both the public and private sectors. It is also necessary to create an opportunity for IT-SME’s to showcase their products and service offerings. 

The event is partnered with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Yarlpanam.

ICTA sources said that the whole business community including the large scale businesses as well as the small and medium size enterprises would greatly benefit from the exhibition cum seminar.

ICTA sets up fully fledged Nenasala’ lab at ‘Deyata Kirula’

Parallel to  Deyata Kirula 2013 (March 23-29), ICT facilities in areas close to where  the event is held are being  improved, says the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) .

Beginning this endeavour an ICTA initiated  Nenasala Laboratory will be set up on 25th instant at the Hardy Advanced Technology Institute, Amapara, the venue of Deyata Kirula this year.  The Hardy Advanced Technology Institute, Ampara is   proposed to be upgraded as the Ampara Hardy Technology University. The Nenasala Laboratory set up at the at the centre of learning in South East Sri Lanka will be equipped with modern ICT facilities including Wi-Fi. The 20-computer Nenasala laboratory scheduled to be inaugurated by Telecommunications and Information Technology  Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma will  cater  specially  to professionals. 

ICTA-initiated  Nenasala laboratories of this genre are scheduled to be set up in the Ampara, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa districts. 

Singer Sri Lanka, together with Intel  supports this ICTA initiative.

As  further components  of the series of development activities parallel to the Deayata Kirula, multiple events are on the cards.  It is in this backdrop that the Nenasala Computer Laboratory at the Hardy Advanced Technology Institute in Ampara  is being launched.  The Nenasala laboratory at the Hardy Advanced Technology Institute will be a permanent  facility;  the ICTA  facilities at the stall at the Deyata Kirula in the premises of the said institute will be temporary, i.e., from 23rd to 29th instant. While the Nenasala laboratory  will cater to professionals,  the ICTA stall will be public-oriented with items like video games  attractive to school children and basic training in using ICT facilities.

By now  more than 100 Nenasala’s have been set up in the Ampara, Trincomalee,  Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa districts, says ICTA.   In addition to the  Nenasala’s  existent in the North,  ICTA is currently  engaged in preparatory work for setting up 40 more Nenasala’s in the North. Currently there are 694 ‘Nenasala’s (‘Arivaham’s’)  spread island-wide under the  Nenasala project,

Referring to the setting up of Nenasala laboratories ICTA CEO Reshan Dewapura says: “Setting up Nenasala laboratories further accentuates Government’s endeavour to take the dividends of ICT to the village. It is hoped that the first such Nenasala laboratory set up at the Hardy Advanced Technology Institute in Ampara will be a forerunner of island-wide transformation of rural Sri Lanka.  We are grateful to the support provided by those concerned in setting up the first Nenasala laboratory complete with the most advanced facilities including Wi-Fi.  The Nenasla laboratory concept goes a long way in taking the dividends of ICT to the village, articulated by the Nenasala project, the brainchild of His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa.  The upsurge of the Nenasala laboratory concept coincides with the current focus on version 2.0 of the Development Agenda as ‘Smart Sri Lanka’. Under  this new phase we are now moving above and beyond pure technology and focusing more on innovation, transformation, entrepreneurship and inclusion. Benefitting though, from the latest advances in technology, more intelligence and smartness can be induced to the country, in all activities in all sectors. The setting up of the first Nenasala laboratory in the precincts of the    Hardy Advanced Technology Institute in Ampara augurs well for a perfect mix of this advanced technology and intelligence that Smart Sri Lanka calls for.”

 ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය ග්‍රාමීය ජනතාවගේ තොරතුරු හා සන්නිවේදන තාක්‍ෂණ අවශ්‍යතාවයන් සපුරාලමීන් ඔවුන් ජන ජිවිතයන් සවිබල ගැන්විමේ අරමුණින්, එවකට අගමැතීව සිටි අතිගරු ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්‍ෂ මැතිතුමාගේ සංකල්පයක් මත නැණසල තොරතුරු තාක්‍ෂණ සංවර්ධන වැඩසටහන ආරම්භ කරන ලදි. එතැන් පටන් මේ දක්වා දිවයිනේ සෑම දිස්ත්‍රික්කයක්ම ආවරණය වන පරිදි නැණසල මධ්‍යස්ථාන 690 ඉක්මවා ස්ථාපීත කර ඇත.

2013 වසර වන විට වසර අටක් සම්පුර්ණ කර ඇති නැණසල ව්‍යාපෘතිය හා සබැදී නැණසල හිමිකරුවන් හා ක්‍රියාකරුවන්ගෙන් ග්‍රාමිය ප්‍රජාවේ ජන ජිවිතයට ඇතිකල වෙනසට ප්‍රණාම දැක්විම සදහා ශ්‍රි ලංකා තොරතුරු හා සන්නිවේදන තාක්‍ෂණ නියෝජිතායතනය “නැණසල ප්‍රණාම - ස්වර්ණ සම්මාන” උළෙල සංවිධානය කරයි.

පහත සදහන් කාණ්ඩයන් ඔස්සේ සම්මාන පුදනු ලබන අතර සියළුම නැණසල මධ්‍යස්ථානයන් මෙම “නැණසල ප්‍රණාම - ස්වර්ණ සම්මාන” සඳහා ​සහභාගි විමට සුදුසුකම් ලබයි.

இலங்கையில் தகவல் தொழில்நுட்பத்தின் மூலம் கிராமங்களுக்கு ஊக்கத்தை கொடுத்து தகவல் மற்றும் தொடர்பாடல் தொழில்நுட்பத்தை பயன்படுத்தி நாட்டின் பொருளாதாரத்தை அபிவிருத்தி செய்து வறுமையை ஒழித்து மக்களின் வாழ்க்கை தரத்தையும்  மக்களையும் வலுப்படுத்தும் நோக்கத்துடன் இலங்கை ஜனநாயக சோஷலிச குடியரசின் அதிமேதகு ஜனாதிபதி மஹிந்த ராஜபக்‌ஷ அவர்களின் தலைமைத்துவத்தினதும் வழிநடத்தலினதும் அடிப்படையில் அமுல்படுத்தப்படும் செயற்திட்டமே “நெனசல - அறிவகம்” செயற்திட்டம். அன்று முதல் இன்று வரை நெனசல அறிவக நிகழ்ச்சித் திட்டத்தின் கீழ் நாடு முழுவதும் 690 ற்கும் மேற்பட்ட நெனசல-அறிவக நிலையங்கள் நிறுவப்பட்டுள்ளன.

இரண்டாயிரத்து பதின்மூன்றாம் ஆண்டில் பல சாதனைகளுடன் எட்டாவது ஆண்டில் கால் பதிக்கும் “நெனசல-அறிவகம்” செயற்திட்டத்தின் நோக்கத்தை அடைவதற்காக நெனசல-அறிவக வளர்ச்சியில், தன்னை முழுமையாக ஈடுபடுத்தி, சிறப்பாக பங்களித்த உரிமையாளர் மற்றும் நடத்துனர்களை கௌரவிப்பதற்காகவும் அவர்களால் அளிக்கப்பட்ட பங்களிப்பிற்கு ஓர் அங்கீகாரத்தை வழங்குவதற்காக இலங்கை தகவல் தொடர்பாடல் தொழில்நுட்ப முகவர் நிலையத்தால் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்ட நிகழ்வே "அறிவகங்களின் அங்கீகாரம் - சுவர்ண விருது" விழாவாகும்.

Each year, a number of projects around the world receive funding from the Internet Society to do everything from connecting Sri Lankan farmers with up-to-date sustainable agriculture information, to teaching ICT skills to at-risk youth in Africa, to working with local engineers to further their IPv6 implementation knowledge. These projects are planned and brought to life by our members.
